Providence Baptist Church - Where hope is found again!
How is it that a person can be 'lost' and then be 'saved'? Scriptures tells us very clearly that with the first man, sin entered the world. That curse has been handed down through every generation since and continues still today. Our sinful natures are born into us and despite how good a person we may think we are, none of us is truly good. Why is this?
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; That means you, me and everyone else. No matter how good we might try to be, eventually we will sin from time to time.
So why is this a problem? Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; We will all die a physical death at some point. It is inevitable. Some sooner than others. But this verse points to something worse than that, a spiritual death. It occurs after the physical death for all who die 'lost' and it is an eternal separation from God in a place of torment and suffering called Hell. Those who go to this place or are destined for this place called Hell are 'lost'. If you do not know Jesus Christ as Savior, then you too are 'lost'.
But God does not wish that all should perish in Hell and has offered us an alternative: Romans 6:23b but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Isnt' that great! God has offered us a gift of eternal life, an opportunity to avoid spiritual death and the torments of Hell!
But why would He do that if the penalty is death? Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Did you catch that? God loves us so much that he sent His only Son to come into the world and to give His life as a ransom for all of us. In other words, Jesus went to the cross and died to pay the debt for our sins. He gave His life out of love for us!
Do you see your need for Jesus Christ in you life today? Come to Him, just as you are, and be saved!
